1.0 Overview

Law Technology and Academic Computing processes an average of 600+ recordings each academic year. Each year the number of recordings has increased, and it became clear that a policy covering our procedures and requirements was needed.


Law Technology, is available as a resource to discuss options and coordinate services to best meet your needs. When in doubt, contact Law Technology.


2.0 Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to outline the guidelines on which we accept recording requests. This allows us to control the amount of requests we receive onto which we can deliver the final product in a timely manner.


3.0 Scope

This policy applies to all students, faculty, and staff at the Santa Clara School of Law.


4.0 Policy


4.1 General Policy


  1. We will only accept requests by only faculty, staff, and organizations. No individual law students may make requests.

  2. Regular requests (non special events) should be made at least 2 weeks in advance. If we receive the request less than 2 weeks in advance, our official policy is to reject the request., though we will refer you to alternative resources.

  3. Special events (anything other than a classroom recording) must be made at least 1 month in advance. Prep time is needed to discuss factors for said event.

  4. Events recorded anywhere else are handled by Media Services. If you are not sure if your request is something that is recorded by us, please create a ticket at lawhelpdesk.scu.edu.

  5. Our turnaround time for helping to edit recordings is 1 week. This time may vary based on the number of recordings we are processing.

  6. Any inquires regarding streaming must be directed to Law Technology

  7. If there are any issues regarding accepting a recording, the final decision will be made by Law Technology.

  8. Our default final products are streaming, digital copy or MP3 format.

  9. Please inform Law Technology of all recording requests before adding them to the calendar.


5.0 Exceptions & Alternative Options


5.1 “Best Effort”

  1. Following the above guidelines will dramatically improve our ability to meet your needs. However, Law Technology will always make a best effort to accommodate all requests, even if they do not meet the official policy. However, we may not be able to fulfill your request.


5.2 Alternatives

  1. Media Services, a central university department, is also available. However, they operate on a “first come, first served” basis that is even more strict than our policy. Nevertheless, we are still willing to contact Media Services on your behalf to do what we can.
