Update: Duo 2-Factor Authentication will be enabled for SCU Google apps (Gmail, Calendar, and Drive) account on July 10, 2019 for Faculty and Staff.

FAQ from University CISO

What is Duo?
Duo is the system we are using to supply 2-factor authentication, sometimes called 2-step verification or multifactor authentication. Duo has been enabled for Peoplesoft Financials and Concur since Fall 2018. Duo2FA is a crucial part of ensuring that your SCU account stays safe. More information about the Duo project can be found at https://www.scu.edu/duo.

Why am I impacted?
Our records indicate that you have enrolled a device in Duo. Because you already have a Duo 2FA account, once we enable Duo on Google apps, you will be required to use Duo 2FA to access SCU email, calendar, and Drive storage, starting July 10.

What do I need to do?
Please review your enrolled devices to ensure you are able to authenticate to Duo when accessing your SCU email, calendar, and drive account from everywhere you want to access it. For example, if you check SCU email at home but have only enrolled your office phone in Duo, you need to add an additional physical device you have at home in order to access SCU email from that location. These devices could be a smartphone app, tablet app, or USB hardware token. The fastest and most secure option is the Duo smartphone app. You can find step-by-step instructions for reviewing and adding devices in the "Managing your Registered Multifactor Devices section at: https://www.scu.edu/technology/get-connected/duo/2fa-quickstart-guide/

UTF Hardware tokens

Employees can receive a UTF hardware token if you do not have or want to enroll your smartphone device. This USB token can be moved between locations and computers and is small enough to fit on your keychain or in your wallet. Currently, they only work when using Chrome or Firefox to access SCU applications. Apple will be adding Safari support later this fall. Internet Explorer will not be supported.
