Office 365 EDU is now called Microsoft 365 EDU. This application suite is available to all registered students currently attending Santa Clara University as well as faculty and staff. Microsoft 365 EDU is only to be installed on your personal computer. As a registered student of Santa Clara University, your Microsoft 365 EDU license starts on the day you are officially registered as a student and ends on the day of your graduation.


Any inquiries about your account (i.e. SCU Gmail email address) that you created on Microsoft's Office portal site can be directed to the IT Service Center at 408-554-5700 or via email, TechDesk@scu.edu. Alternatively, you can reach out to the vendor, Microsoft, which is the primary support  (account enrollment issues, product bugs, etc.) for Microsoft 365 EDU because University IT does not have a local Office 365 EDU admin. The Microsoft support number is 800-642-7676 or 877-696-7786.


Please note, Law Technology cannot reset any passwords for Microsoft portal accounts so you must contact the main University IT Service Help Desk or Microsoft Support. 


Please be advised that once you have graduated from Santa Clara University, your copy and license of Microsoft 365 (SCU licensed) will not longer work. You must plan accordingly and make sure to back up your data from any online storage areas (One Drive) before your graduation date. If you wish to continue with a subscription to Microsoft Office, then purchase your commercial copy at Microsoft.




WARNING: While Micrsoft Office 365 EDU now has Microsoft Teams included in their basic install package. SCU has not enabled a site license to use Microsoft Teams. SCU, instead, recommends you use SCU Google Meet for small peer meetings, and Zoom for web conferencing sessions, webinars, and/or distance learning classes.

Register, Install, and Activate Microsoft (Office) 365 EDU

Register with Microsoft: To activate and install your copy of Microsoft Office 365 EDU, you must first create a Microsoft account using your SCU Email address. Visit here.



Verify and test your newly created Microsoft account: Once you have created your new Microsoft 365 account, Microsoft will then send you a verification email to your SCU GMAIL inbox to finalize your Microsoft Office 365 EDU account activation. 




Now, log into Microsoft 365 portal, https://login.microsoftonline.com/

 

When prompted, select "work or school account," then use your verified your SCU GMAIL address and the password that you created when you first created your Microsoft 365 account.

Download and install Microsoft 365 EDU: After successfully logging into your Microsoft 365 portal account, click on the "install Office" button to download the Microsoft "Office 365 apps " install file for your OS, currently Mac OS or Windows 10 only. It will detect your OS and download the appropriate install file.

After you have downloaded the install file, find the install file on your local drive and run the install file.


NOTE: Alternatively, you can go to upper right, click on your account icon (your initials), select "My Account," and then "Apps & Devices" to download your install file as well.


Activate your copy of Microsoft 365 EDU: Once you have successfully installed Office 365 EDU, run any application (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint) and sign in with your SCU GMAIL address (that was used to create a Microsoft 365 portal account)  and the same password that you created at the time of creating your Microsoft portal account to activate your license.
